*If
you can find the information an item contains on
the web you don't need it Examples:
magazine, old text books, catalogs
*If
you are not sure if you should get rid of
something, put an expiry date on it & get
rid of it on that date
*Make
more room in your closets by clearing out all
those old bridesmaid, prom and formal dresses.
Put them up for sale & make some $$
*When
in doubt-throw it out! Challenge yourself to
throw out MORE than feels comfortable
*Store
items in clear containers to make things easier
to find
*Keep
a box in the hall closet for items you don't
need & donate when full (consider donating
to Organized
Angels)
*Schedule
a time in your planner 4 times a year to drop
off donations
*Make
sure every item in your house has a home.
*Keep
a laundry bag by the washer for clothes that
need to go to the dry cleaners
*Purchase
furniture with drawers and shelves whenever
possible
*Schedule
a day 4 times a year to sort and purge
Automatic
Purge Items:
*clothes
that don't fit or are stained/ripped/faded
*shoes
that hurt your feet
*broken
dishes
*non working appliances
*mangled
wrapping paper or gift bags
Bathroom:
*Throw
out all expired prescription medicine & all
non- expired prescription medicine over 1
year old
*Throw
out all makeup over a year old & keep the
rest in a makeup bag instead of
taking up lots of space on the counter or in a
drawer
*Do
not keep sunscreen that is more than 1 year old
*
Keep soap in a pump rather than a bar on the
sink. This looks better and does not make
such a mess.
*
A magnetic strip on the inside of a medicine
cabinet is a great way to store tweezers,
scissors, nail clippers etc.
*Need
more space under the sink? Try stackable, rubber
maid drawers.
*
If you do not have enough shelf space, roll up
your towels and wash cloths and keep them in a
pretty basket by the shower
*Install
hooks on the back of the door for towels or
bathrobes
Kitchen:
*Throw
out all those plastic shopping bags you have
been saving with the exception of 10. This is
more than enough to keep on hand and if you need
more you know where to get them
*Tackle
that refrigerator! Dispose of any food that is
no longer edible. Then remove items from one
shelf at a time and clean thoroughly with a wash
cloth. I know this is not fun but it is
necessary.
*Remove
anything on your kitchen counter that you do not
use everyday.
*Replace
items with a system. For example: Top Shelf:
beverages, Middle Shelf: unprepared foods,
Bottom Shelf: leftovers, 1st Drawer: veggies
& fruits, 2nd Drawer: bottled water &
soda cans, Side Door: condiments
*Zip
lock bags are great for keeping loose items such
as Tupperware lids together. This will keep them
from getting scattered
Bedroom:
*Store your clothes that are not in season in plastic,
labeled containers (if you are going shopping for these
be sure to measure the height under the bed first)
*The clear zippered bags that bedspreads come in are
also great for storing clothes
